NJPA Awards National Contract to Becker Arena Products
Staples, MN (October 21, 2010) – In response to a national, competitive bid, the National Joint Powers Alliance® (NJPA) has awarded Becker Arena Products, Inc. a contract for “Athletic and/or Recreational Related Surfaces to Include, Athletic Equipment and Accessories”. The contract was approved by the NJPA Board of Directors on October 21st and is available nationally to all NJPA member agencies.

Budgets and the Economy
Government revenues higher in latest quarter – State and local government tax revenue in the final quarter of 2011 rose to a 23-year high, the Census Bureau reported March 22. Tax revenues were at the highest level for one quarter since the Census Bureau began tracking state and local tax data in 1988, according to Reuters. Read more….
Indiana owes $206 million to local governments; Governor Mitch Daniels orders outside audit – Gov. Mitch Daniels has ordered an outside audit of the Department of Revenue after officials discovered a second programming error that led the state to short cash-strapped local governments $206 million in income tax payments over the past 16 months. The state sent those payments — plus interest — to counties as well as increased estimates of what local governments should expect to receive in the coming months. 2012 Keating Report on government budgets and spending – The U.S. economy and government budgets appear to be getting back on their feet in 2012. Sure, the federal budget deficit in 2012 will still be huge — around $1.1 trillion, but so is the government market. In 2012, government purchases of goods and services will reach $2.99 trillion, down slightly from $3.03 trillion in 2011, according to Waltham, Mass.-based economic forecaster IHS Global Insight. Of that amount, federal government purchases of goods and services will total $1.22 trillion in 2012, while state and local government purchases will reach $1.77 trillion. By 2013, state and local government purchases of goods and services will rebound to $1.79 trillion, predicts IHS. Read more….

Mayor: Detroit Won’t Run Out of Cash by April – Detroit is no longer at risk of running out of cash by April because cost-cutting and other measures are taking effect, Mayor Dave Bing said, but the city council president and others do not share Bing’s optimism. Bing presented a financial and operational restructuring plan update to the council Thursday afternoon. It highlights cost savings from 1,000 imminent layoffs, overdue payments from the Detroit Public Schools district and a corporate tax increase he says will mitigate a cash shortfall. Read more….
