Government revenues higher in latest quarter – State and local government tax revenue in the final quarter of 2011 rose to a 23-year high, the Census Bureau reported March 22. Indiana owes $206 million to local governments; Governor Mitch Daniels orders outside audit – Gov. Mitch Daniels has ordered an outside audit of the Department of Revenue after officials discovered a second programming error that led the state to short cash-strapped local governments $206 million in income tax payments over the past 16 months. The state sent those payments — plus interest — to counties as well as increased estimates of what local governments should expect to receive in the coming months.
