Regional Programs & Services

Since its inception over 30 years ago, the National Joint Powers Alliance® has been known by various names, including Educational Cooperative Service Unit-5, the North Central Service Cooperative and the National Cooperative Service Corporation.

But one thing that hasn’t changed is NJPA’s dedication to serving the entities within Region 5 of Central Minnesota.

NJPA is dedicated to provide regional programs and services that meet the guidelines of Minnesota State Statute 123A.21, created in 1978 and revised in 1995.

Academic & Student Recognition Programs

Academic Programs
Region 5 offers academic programs to area schools that involve the programs of Knowledge Bowl, Junior High Level Knowledge Bowl and the Regional Spelling Bee.

Student Recognition Programs
Annually, NJPA honors students annually with a Student Recognition Banquet.  Nominated students and their families are invited to attend the banquet and awards program.

Regional Projects

NJPA is involved with a number of regional projects that benefit the communities in the area.

NJPA also works to promote the growth of shared services throughout the region. Upon request, NJPA will employ staff and sell this time to Member organizations that wish to share positions. Examples include school nurses, counselors, psychologists, administrators, athletic trainers, curriculum coordinators, technology coordinators, student academic program coordinators, social workers, day treatment providers and behavior management assistants.

Currently, NJPA provides employment services for 14 people staffing the Crow Wing County Family Services Collaborative, plus a grant facilitator and a Youth Family Service worker (YFS).
